Here at Cars + Movies, we’re quite fond of Adam Carolla’s “The Car Show” on Speed TV. Fun cast, cool cars and overall pretty well done. It’s not Top Gear, but they’re finding a good pace and tone. In episode 8, they pitched Magnum PI’s 308 GTS Ferrari against… a V6 Toyota Camry and the Back To The Future DMC Delorean against a, oh man… a Toyota Sienna. So… a Ferrari against the most vanilla car on the road today and an 80’s icon with gull-wing doors against a minivan. Ahem… Sounds like the Toyotas stand no chance, right? Well, think again. The beautiful Anne Hathaway will be playing Selina Kyle in the next Batman movie, and she gets to ride the Batpod for that. Now, that basically means that she’s the next Catwoman, except that the production has been avoided calling her character by that name. Her role will be less raunchy than the previous versions, and more oriented towards action and badass-ness. So less shiny vynil skin-tight outfits and kitty ears, more techie goggles and tactical suits. We like. How about you?

It’s a “2-day event featuring over 1000 iconic movie props and costumes from the Golden Era of Hollywood to new film releases. From signature Michael Jackson stageworn costumes, a collection from Star Wars to iconic props and costumes from Apocalypse Now, Batman, Titanic, Close Encounters, Indiana Jones and so much more”. One of the highlights is a character from Michael Bay’s Transformers 2, the bike Chromia. It’s a modified Suzuki with a gigantic tailpipe and all kinds of customs elements. Here’s the description:

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) – This is the original “Chromia” Arcee Motorcycle from Michael Bay’s film. This motorcycle, named “Chromia”, is based on the toy and comic book character. Created by Retro Superbike from a 2008 Suzuki B-King, it was used on set in the opening sequence of the movie and in the introduction of the new Autobot. It was called “F@cking Awesome” by Michael Bay when he first saw it. The paint scheme, as dictated by Bay and crew, depicts the Glyphs seen throughout the movie. Also includes a damaged fairing piece and the original studio rendering used for design approval. This item is oversized and will require additional shipping charges. It’s official, Cars 2 will introduce new characters, including Mrs Holley Shiftwell, a British spy who will partner with Lightning McQueen and Mater.

She herself comes to the rescue of her renown colleague Finn McMissile (sounds like a James Bond guy to us! maybe will he be dressed as an Aston?). We like her good looks (inspired by TVR) and her name (Holley carburator anyone?). Can’t wait for more reveals!
The movie will hit theaters on June 24, 2011.

“Holley Shiftwell is a beautiful young British desk agent, turned spy-in-training who’s stationed in Tokyo. Well-educated and sharp, she knows every trick in the book—or rather, she relies on every trick in the spy manual. Remember Mc Lovin’ from Superbad and the nerdy kid from Role Models? Well that’s Christopher Mintz-Plasse in real life, and he’s in the upcoming superhero comedy Kick-Ass with Nicolas Cage and Aaron Johnson. In this adaptation of the eponymous comic-book series, they play a team of real-life superheroes with no otherworldly powers, but with a good heart and a lot of guts. Christoper Mintz-Plasse gets a tricked-out previous generation (2009?) Ford Mustang with some Saleen elements (like the trunk plate). Looks pretty cool!

In 1987, the science -fiction movie Cherry 200 came out, featuring Melanie Griffith, her lifted 1965 Mustang and a few Blakely Bantam, the famous British 3-wheeler. It’s a perverted love tale, taking place in Vegas in 2017, where all things sexual are made with robots or only after a lengthy contract is signed in the presence of the lawyers from both parties. Considered a B-movie, it still has a sort of cult following.

Crazy what you can do with a Delorean, a few props and a bit of creativity. This ad comes from a small insurance company, they act in it and they probably shot it themselves, but they sure got a lot of exposure with it. It won’t win a Lion at Cannes, but it’s awesome in its own right.

Autographed by Carroll Shelby, this Eleanor replica is true to the movie ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’, down to the nuts and bolts. It was built by the much troubled Unique Performance which packed 585hp in the 427 Ford V8 engine. The rest of the car follows up with a lot of performance parts and a beautiful finish. It took $110,000 for a lucky bidder to get his hands on it a few days ago at the Barrett-Jackson auctions in Scottsdale, AZ.

Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), with Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie and
Robert Duvall, was a remake from the 1974 eponymous movie.
