Here at Cars + Movies, we’re quite fond of Adam Carolla’s “The Car Show” on Speed TV. Fun cast, cool cars and overall pretty well done. It’s not Top Gear, but they’re finding a good pace and tone. In episode 8, they pitched Magnum PI’s 308 GTS Ferrari against… a V6 Toyota Camry and the Back To The Future DMC Delorean against a, oh man… a Toyota Sienna. So… a Ferrari against the most vanilla car on the road today and an 80’s icon with gull-wing doors against a minivan. Ahem… Sounds like the Toyotas stand no chance, right? Well, think again. It’s official, Cars 2 will introduce new characters, including Mrs Holley Shiftwell, a British spy who will partner with Lightning McQueen and Mater.

She herself comes to the rescue of her renown colleague Finn McMissile (sounds like a James Bond guy to us! maybe will he be dressed as an Aston?). We like her good looks (inspired by TVR) and her name (Holley carburator anyone?). Can’t wait for more reveals!
The movie will hit theaters on June 24, 2011.

“Holley Shiftwell is a beautiful young British desk agent, turned spy-in-training who’s stationed in Tokyo. Well-educated and sharp, she knows every trick in the book—or rather, she relies on every trick in the spy manual. Remember the gorgeous Ferrari 250GT Spyder California that Bueller and his buddies crashed in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?
Well now you can buy that garage (which turns out to be a house)… for $1.65 million, and No the car isn’t included. It’s actually a pretty swell building hidden in the woods of Highland Park, Illinois. Architects A. James Speyer and David Haid built the Ben Rose House in 1953.

Now go get it and let us know if rolling the car backwards will turn back the odometer…

In 1987, the science -fiction movie Cherry 200 came out, featuring Melanie Griffith, her lifted 1965 Mustang and a few Blakely Bantam, the famous British 3-wheeler. It’s a perverted love tale, taking place in Vegas in 2017, where all things sexual are made with robots or only after a lengthy contract is signed in the presence of the lawyers from both parties. Considered a B-movie, it still has a sort of cult following.

Autographed by Carroll Shelby, this Eleanor replica is true to the movie ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’, down to the nuts and bolts. It was built by the much troubled Unique Performance which packed 585hp in the 427 Ford V8 engine. The rest of the car follows up with a lot of performance parts and a beautiful finish. It took $110,000 for a lucky bidder to get his hands on it a few days ago at the Barrett-Jackson auctions in Scottsdale, AZ.

Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), with Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie and
Robert Duvall, was a remake from the 1974 eponymous movie.

January 18-24 the 39th Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction took place in Scottsdale, AZ, and a few well-known movie vehicles crossed the stage and found new owners. One of them was the Ford A that was used my the infamous John Dillinger to escape the FBI in of the darkest moments of its history. On top of that, the car starred in the movie about John Dillinger, played by Johnny Depp, Public Enemies. The all-star cast also included Marion Cotillard, James Russo, Channing Tatum, and Christian Bale.

In a statement, Barret-Jackson president Steve Davis declared: “Dillinger, it is said, smashed the Ford’s rear window with his Thompson [submachine gun] and sprayed his pursuers with bullets,” In 2007 it was restored for Public Enemies, while keeping the original bullet holes. The car comes with meticulous documentation, including “transfer paperwork, articles, books, before-restoration photographs and a selection of documents copied from the federal files.”
It could have fetched a bit more money a few years ago but it still reached the nice sum of $165,000. Not bad.

Summary: Original car used by John Dillinger, Hommer Van Meter and John Hamilton to escape from Little Bohemia, Wisconsin and the largest FBI crack down in history.

Details: This car was used by John Dillinger, Hommer Van Meter and John Hamilton to get away from Melvin Purvis and 17 other FBI agents that were sent to Little Bohemia, WI on April 22, 1934 to take John Dillinger, dead or alive, by President Roosevelt and J. Edgar Hoover. This was the largest crack down in all of FBI history and most famous incident, it was reported in newspapers all over the U.S. and in other countries. When the gang had escaped, they had driven the car to St. Paul, Minnesota and had gotten into a running gun battle with police, exchanging gun fire for over 45 minutes. They finally got away, but this paid a toll on John Hamilton because he was shot during the gun battle and died in Chicago three days later from his wounds. During this incident, two FBI agents and one CCC worker were killed and eight more people were wounded. After this incident, President Roosevelt was so upset that had Melvin Purvis and J. Edgar Hoover failed to capture Dillinger one more time, it would have been the end of the FBI as we know it today. This car is considered the rarest Dillinger car, there is no other like it.

This wonderful BTTF replica was built for for someone with a very large wallet by Gary Weaver, an expert on everything DeLorean-from-Back-To-The-Future related. It’s extremely accurate and well built, and to top that of, was shot in front of the Gamble house in Pasadena, California (hey, that’s right next to Cars + Movies HQ… ), the house inhabited by Doc Brown in the movies. It’s for sale on eBay right now and has no bids yet for the third time around. You should pay the auction a visit even if just to see the wonderful pictures and the specs of what could be your next ride.

The starting bid is $59,000 and the Buy it Now price $89,000 so that could explain the lack of bids, but we’re pretty sure some true fan will show up. If you buy it, shoot us an email, we’d love to take a ride in it (we thought about it but avoided adding “at 88mph” by that much).

The trailer put together by HBO for their first airing of the Dark Knight. Great job!

The auction might be over on eBay but it still is fantastic to look at. The guy behind this Tumbler (and Batpod, and 80’s Batmobile etc) spent hours giving it as many details as possible and making it functional, but he also made comic strips and videos… insane!
