Here at Cars + Movies, we’re quite fond of Adam Carolla’s “The Car Show” on Speed TV. Fun cast, cool cars and overall pretty well done. It’s not Top Gear, but they’re finding a good pace and tone. In episode 8, they pitched Magnum PI’s 308 GTS Ferrari against… a V6 Toyota Camry and the Back To The Future DMC Delorean against a, oh man… a Toyota Sienna. So… a Ferrari against the most vanilla car on the road today and an 80’s icon with gull-wing doors against a minivan. Ahem… Sounds like the Toyotas stand no chance, right? Well, think again. We thought the Bridgestone commcial for the big game was okay, just not as fun as the fantastic “screaming squirrel” from last year. But it looked oddly familiar : the 80’s sci-fi look, the young couple being stopped by a bunch of thugs at night on a deserted road, the challenge “your… or your girl”… It’s the intro scene of The Wraith! No PPG/Dodge “Turbo Interceptor” MS4 here, but a mashup of parts and pipes that reminds of the Delorean from Back to the Future. It could have been funny to have Charlie Sheen do a cameo in there (after all, he’s already doing commercials for Hanes…).
We have to salute the good 80’s movie car culture from the creative people behind the commercial though. Who knows, maybe The Wraith gets some renewed popularity from this, maybe even a Hollywood producer gets his wheels turning and we get a remake in 2012? That could be kind of cool, what do you guys think? Leave your comments!

Crazy what you can do with a Delorean, a few props and a bit of creativity. This ad comes from a small insurance company, they act in it and they probably shot it themselves, but they sure got a lot of exposure with it. It won’t win a Lion at Cannes, but it’s awesome in its own right.

Autographed by Carroll Shelby, this Eleanor replica is true to the movie ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’, down to the nuts and bolts. It was built by the much troubled Unique Performance which packed 585hp in the 427 Ford V8 engine. The rest of the car follows up with a lot of performance parts and a beautiful finish. It took $110,000 for a lucky bidder to get his hands on it a few days ago at the Barrett-Jackson auctions in Scottsdale, AZ.

Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), with Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie and
Robert Duvall, was a remake from the 1974 eponymous movie.

This wonderful BTTF replica was built for for someone with a very large wallet by Gary Weaver, an expert on everything DeLorean-from-Back-To-The-Future related. It’s extremely accurate and well built, and to top that of, was shot in front of the Gamble house in Pasadena, California (hey, that’s right next to Cars + Movies HQ… ), the house inhabited by Doc Brown in the movies. It’s for sale on eBay right now and has no bids yet for the third time around. You should pay the auction a visit even if just to see the wonderful pictures and the specs of what could be your next ride.

The starting bid is $59,000 and the Buy it Now price $89,000 so that could explain the lack of bids, but we’re pretty sure some true fan will show up. If you buy it, shoot us an email, we’d love to take a ride in it (we thought about it but avoided adding “at 88mph” by that much).

A Mad Max fan has built an Interceptor replica on a Ford Mustang Mach 1 base and is now trying to sell it on eBay for the small Buy it now price of $18k… It’s not base on a Falcon like it should and the supercharger, air scoops and side exhausts are fake, but it still looks cool and would have everyone in your neighborhood talking. Instant fame, just like that.

The auction might be over on eBay but it still is fantastic to look at. The guy behind this Tumbler (and Batpod, and 80’s Batmobile etc) spent hours giving it as many details as possible and making it functional, but he also made comic strips and videos… insane!
