Sunday Ads: a bit of physics with the Accord

May 4th, 2008 · No Comments

“Isn’t it nice when things just… work?”

Remember playing with gears and pulleys, for example with your Legos, when you were a kid? Yeah? Then you’re going to like this amazing ad, which was made to promote the Honda Accord back in 2006. Using only parts from the car itself, they put together an incredibly complex mechanism (a.k.a a Rube Goldberg machine) to move a real Accord. The part where the wipers “walk” by themselves after some water is poured on the windshield is our favorite.

If you want more type in “Rube Goldberg” on YouTube (we did it for you so you don’t have to) and there’s tons of them (there’s even a Japanese TV show dedicated to them).

Keep reading and watch an original Rube Goldberg video after the jump!

“Man has discovered a virtually unlimited source of power…Gasoline.”

Mr. Goldberg had his own show back in the 1940’s. In this video he shows one of his inventions, then explains two crazy -but patented!- machines, that he debunks, and then comes a sort of Discovery Channel segment where the wonders of gasoline are explained. And yes folks, there’s no need to worry, gasoline is in unlimited supply!
