Knight Rider to become a series for fall 2008

2008 Knight Rider series

Nope, it’s no April fool’s day hoax, Knight Rider will be part of NBC’s fall schedule on a weekly basis. While the 2 hour pilot, aired in February, was barely enjoyable and got many bad reviews, many people watched it and it got great ratings. If you want to read more about the pilot, check out our complete review.

Hopefully, NBC will take in account all the criticism about the pilot and make some changes. Better writing and better acting could be a good start, but will the start of the show get a makeover? After all, two KITT Mustang Shelby GT500KR were sold recently at Barrett-Jackson, for a whopping $300,000… Nonetheless, it’s very unlikely for the production to drop the Mustang, but some adjustments may be in sight.

Variety noted that many shows on the NBC lineup will allow watchers to escape from the dire reality of recession:

Many of the series in contention for the Peacock lineup boast a fantasy or action element, including one show just added to NBC’s 2008-09 roster: “Knight Rider,” the Doug Liman-produced actioner whose two-hour backdoor pilot snagged solid ratings in February. Project has been given an episodic order and has been mentioned as a contender for a Friday night timeslot.

Whatever happens, we hope they tone down all the Ford publicity extravaganza…
