This Friday (March 14th) will open Doomsday in the US. For a car enthusiast, the movie looks promising, taking clues from
Mad Max III, Beyond Thunderdome, and featuring a nice assortment of army vehicles, motorcycles with skulls, death buggies, a post-apocalyptic london Cab and a Bentley Continental GT (you have ten seconds to find the item that doesn’t belong in that list).
Other movies that come to mind while watching the trailer are Resident Evil, Ultraviolet, Æon Flux and pretty much all those that involve a charming lady in spandex suit battling zombies/weirdoes/viruses/*insert your favorite disease here*.
The lady in spandex suit is played here by
Rhona Mitra (Shooter, Get Carter), and she’s the one who gets to drive the Continental GT (also in black suit) through a school bus. You can see it and the other vehicles in the gallery below.
Is Bentley giving into product placement now? It seems highly improbable, specially for this kind of movie. Aston Martin in James Bond, OK, Bentley in a zombie flick, not so much.
However, it also seems that this new horror/survival flick, directed and written by Neil Marshall (The Descent (2005)), with a score by Tyler Bates (who also made the one for 300) could potentially be one of these “so-bad-it’s-good” movie. There’s so many cliches and deja-vu moments in the trailer only, we’re a little skeptical… Answer on Friday!
