Today we introduce a new section: Sunday ads. Every sunday we will present a new commercial, vintage or contemporary, good or bad… The only rule: it must have a cinematic quality or make a reference to a movie.
To kick things out, one of my favorites growing up in France: the Bond flavored commercial for the Peugeot 205 GTI.
The compact hatchback was a hot ticket back in the days -at least in the old world, with plenty of power for its low weight, a bit like a Volkswagen Golf GTI or a Mazdaspeed 3 nowadays.
The ad agency EURO RSCG, lead by the legendary Jacques Seguela (he made tons of crazy ads in the 80’s), came up with this blockbuster-like film where a spy on his way back from a mission, gets his parachute blown up by a jet fighter, is chased by a bomber -on ice- , and finally makes it to his girl who greets him with a “I almost had to wait”.

It was one of this ads who get people talking by the water cooler, and the sales were very successful. It was a big boost for the manufacturer’s image too.
