Speed Racer’s Mach 5 also at the 2008 NAIAS Detroit Auto Show

Speed Racer, Mach 5, 02

Speed Racer (2008), posterSpeed Racer (1967) was a Japanese cartoon that became hugely popular in the US and worldwide. Larry and Andy Wachowski (the guys behind The Matrix trilogy) are directing a remake that will be released this year, and that a lot of fans await. Considering what can be seen in the trailer, you can expect a movie more of the caliber of the third Matrix movie than of the first. Personnally, it makes me think of Robert Rodriguez’ The Adventures of  Shark Boy and Lava Girl 3D (2005). Like The Matrix, Speed Racer has been shot digitally using the green screen technique, but this time in high definition.

The star of the movie is the Mach 5, a trident-shaped race car, and those of you who will visit the Detroit Auto Show will be able to see it in the flesh, just like the new KITT.

Like The Matrix, Speed Racer has been shot digitally using the green screen technique, but this time in high definition. The cast has some big names such as Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon and Emile Hirsh, who will wear the hero’s white jumpsuit. It will be in theatres on May 7th.

And, just for fun, the 3D rendering that you’ve probably seen dozens of times already:
